Outstanding Fresh Christmas Trees in Glasgow and the West

Nothing beats a real Christmas Tree

What type of real Christmas Tree is best in Scotland?

We’ve found that the best choice for real Christmas Trees in Scotland is between the Nordman Fir and the Fraser Fir. They are both excellent choices and the choice of one over the other usually depends on personal preference. Below is a comparison of Nordman Fir and Fraser Fir as indoor Christmas trees.

One thing to note is that the Nordman Fir is by far our best-selling and best-stocked tree which means we will mostly be able to fulfil any order up until the first week of December. It is very well rated for being non-drop for needles and we sell around 90% of these to repeat clients.

The Nordman Fir:

Appearance: The Nordman Fir has a classic ‘conical’ Christmas tree shape. The branches grow in layers and then become shorter and thinner as you get to the top of the tree. This means there is a fabulous symmetrical shape. We have the trees pruned two to three times a year to ensure they keep their shape and look their best.

Needle Characteristics: Nordman Firs have soft, glossy, and non-shedding needles. This means they create less mess in your home as they don’t drop needles as readily as some other Christmas tree species.

Needle Retention: Nordman Firs are known for their excellent needle retention, staying fresh and attractive for an extended period, reducing the need for frequent watering and cleanup.

Typical sizes:  The Nordmann is a slow-growing tree and can take ten years to reach 6 feet tall which makes the most common sizes we sell to be the 5 and 6-foot trees but they can grow to as much as 20 feet given the right conditions. Contact us for your specific sizes.

Child and Pet-Friendly: Nordman Firs are a safe choice for households with children and pets due to their soft and non-prickly needles.

Allergenicity: They are considered to be low odour and have lower allergenicity, making them suitable for individuals with allergies or sensitivities.

Care up until Christmas: The Nordmann is a tree which can last for a longer period of time, making it ideal for families who want their Christmas decorations installed early in the festive period. Just make sure that you water it well and do not place it near radiators or open fires.

The Fraser Fir:

Appearance: The Fraser Fir is what is called a pyramid-shaped tree which means it has thick and strong branches which means it’s better than Nordman at carrying a heavier load. The pattern of the branches is very symmetrical. The Fraser For has dark branches which are mainly green with a touch of blue under them. We have the trees pruned two to three times a year to ensure they keep their shape and look their best.

Needle Retention: Fraser Firs are also known for their exceptional needle retention, staying fresh and vibrant throughout the holiday season.

Typical Sizes: The Fraser Fir comes in a number of heights and the most common sizes we sell are the 5 and 6 foot trees. Due to their thinner shape, they are better suited to a cosy home. Contact us for your specific sizes.

Aroma: Unlike the Nordman, Fraser Firs emit a pleasant, citrusy fragrance that can fill your home with a delightful scent, enhancing the holiday atmosphere.

Sturdy Branches: Fraser Firs have strong, sturdy branches that can support a wide range of decorations, including heavier ornaments.

Allergenicity: Like Nordman Firs, Fraser Firs are generally considered to be a lower-allergenicity option.

Care up until Christmas: They should last for upwards of five weeks with the right care but despite being more robust they should still be watered well. Avoid placing it near radiators or open fires.

Other Considerations:

Cost:

At the moment our Fraser Firs are slightly cheaper than Nordman Firs due to levels of demand and availability.

Sustainability:

Both species are grown on our own property using sustainable forestry practices, supporting environmentally responsible industry practices.

Conclusion

Both Nordman Firs and Fraser Firs are excellent choices for indoor Christmas trees. Both trees are known for their excellent needle retention, safety for children and pets, and low allergenicity. Fraser Firs tend to stand up better to heavy decoration but both options should provide you with a stunning centrepiece for your festive home decorations.
